Castle?- Check
Our trip to Inverness started with a personal tour of the Loch(Lake) Ness, with the famous myth about the Loch Ness Monster who lives there, Nessie. Although, we didn't have a sighting while we were there.:(
Afterwards Alexis, Laura, and I got our shopping on! It was Boxing Day (Dec 26th), the equivalent to Black Friday in the US. The next day Laura and I explored the town some more, and quickly felt more at home than we have in a long time! It was surreal for me how parts of it reminded me of America....
Now to the HIGHLIGHT of the trip! The Scottish Ceilidh
Two other teacher decided to come last minute (2 of my roommates from last year), and that made 4 of us single girls from America. Then there was a couple from A's church in the US. The idea of a man in a Kilt didn't phase any of us by the end of the night, it was a norm among the older generation, and a first for the groom. A Ceilidh is similar to an American version of a Square Dance. Since there weren't enough single men to go around, (and they weren't asking) Laura and I jumped right in, and were dance partners for most of the evening. Looking back we were probably deemed as crazy as we laughed our way through the night. Neither of us did our homework before attending, if we would have we would have know what the Strip the Willow Dance would entail. It was the final dance of the night and basically it was like a do-se-do line, we were out of breath at the end. It was a once in a lifetime experience (unless we can find another man from Scotland to marry a friend), and I was so blessed to be there to support my dear friend. It will be a memory I will treasure.
